Thanks for your help with dialectic journals! I couldn't find my own, old format, and I'm putting together an assignment for the closing weeks of 20th Cent. lit for my seniors--they choose from Secret Life of Bees, Peace Like a River, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, or Someday This Pain Will be Useful to You--these journals will constitute their major writing assignment. Great website--thanks again.

Hello, Thanks so much for your lesson plans! Just starting to think about my unit on Buried Onions...will teach to my second year ESL students...will let you know how it goes!

Do you have any good film in mind that I could show that class
after they finish the book, that deals with similar material as the book? I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks again,
Lynda Zimmerman

Here's a bit of advice I learned from doing this with the students:
1. Make sure you have enough pairs of scissors for each group (i broke the students up into groups of three - each kid rolls 3 times to pick their 3 activities)
2. Speed up the cutting/folding process by having groups race to see who can get their cube made first. I gave little prepackaged brownies to the winning group. The group that had no incentive took FOREVER to get their cubes put together.
3. Consider just having kids complete 2 activities... three was a lot, considering how much I wanted them to write. I might also just limit the intensity of the activity. They will have to complete some of this work at home.
